The data residency gap

SiteGround offers data centres in the US (Chicago), Europe (Netherlands, UK, Germany), and Asia-Pacific (Singapore, Sydney). They do not offer a Canadian data centre option.

For Canadian businesses, the closest option is Chicago — still US soil, still subject to US federal law, and still outside Canadian privacy jurisdiction. Choosing a European location doesn't solve the problem either: PIPEDA compliance requires Canadian residency for many regulated industries, not just “non-US” residency.

SiteGround is a Bulgarian company (SiteGround Hosting Ltd., registered in Sofia). While this means they're not directly subject to the US CLOUD Act at the corporate level, data stored in their Chicago data centre is physically within US jurisdiction.

Where SiteGround excels

SiteGround is a quality host. We acknowledge where they do well:

  • Support quality is consistently rated among the best in shared hosting
  • Their custom caching (SuperCacher) delivers measurable performance gains
  • Daily backups and staging are well-implemented on higher-tier plans
  • WordPress-specific optimizations (SG Optimizer plugin) are effective

If data residency is not a concern for your business and you prefer an established international host with strong WordPress tooling, SiteGround is a solid option. For Canadian businesses requiring data sovereignty, TransPark fills the gap SiteGround cannot.

Canadian data. Canadian servers. Canadian company.

SiteGround is good — but they can't put your data in Canada. TransPark can. Fixed pricing, free migration, 30-day guarantee.
